This week the wind blew and as children enjoyed their recess play time, some enjoyed the magical energy of the wind.
Friday afternoon, Jessie Lee students, staff, and some of our parents, said farewell to Ms. Stacey Balatti and Ms. Aliza Burden, our amazing, and much-loved office assistants. Thank you, Mr. Simmers, and our grade 7 helpers, Mason and Nate, for organizing the assembly.
How lucky we all have been to have known these two very thoughtful and generous ladies who have helped make our school a very welcoming and safe place for our students and families. Many students, parents, and teachers had tears in their eyes during our farewell assembly; these two ladies have touched our hearts in so many ways. I want to personally thank Stacey and Aliza for all they have done for me to make my start at Jessie Lee a success. Thank you!
Ms. Balatti moves on to full-time, year-round District Office Clerk for Facilities in charge of transportation, and Ms. Burden moves on to Morgan Creek Elementary where she will now be working a very welcomed four-days, and one day still at Thrift Elementary.
In the wise words of Winnie the Pooh, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying good-bye so hard.” How lucky we have been to have known you both. We will hold you in our hearts forever.
Kelli Vogstad, Principal
Two of our very techie grade 7s, Isaac and Mojhgan, created a wonderful Farewell Video Presentation for Ms. Balatti and Ms. Burden. It will be uploaded in a few days.
Scholastic Book Fair, A Big Success!
On behalf of Jessie Lee’s staff and students, we send out a huge thank you to our community who came out and supported this event! Thank you for your generosity and thank you to all those who volunteered their time to help.
This week our grade 4 and 5 students also enjoyed a presentation in the library, the Reading Link Challenge.
The Reading Link Challenge is a province-wide program for students in grades 4 and 5 that promotes the “sport of reading.” The program is run as a series of trivia challenges with winning teams advancing to higher levels of competition. Participating children learn about teamwork and how to read for retention. The Reading Link Challenge also promotes public library usage and encourages children to develop a lifelong habit of reading for pleasure. To read more about it Click Here!
Our teams have one more game this week and then the following week are the Playdays. Jessie Lee will be hosting the boys’ Playday on Wednesday the 29th, which will include four teams from Jessie Lee, Bayridge, South Meridian, and Ray Shepherd Elementary Schools. The girls will be heading off to Bayridge Elementary on Thursday the 30th for their Playday against the same four school teams.
